MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota women's basketball team has added a member to its 2019 recruiting class as Maryia "Masha" Adashchyk has signed a National Letter of Intent, head coach Lindsay Whalen announced Wednesday.

A 5'11 guard from Minsk, Belarus, Adashchyk has spent the last two seasons playing for Panola College in Carthage, Texas. She averaged 12.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per contest in her two seasons and helped the Fillies reach the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship in her freshman campaign.

Adashchyk, who is the first player from Belarus to sign with the Gophers, shot 48.6 percent from the field, 38.6 percent on 3-pointers and 79.2 percent on free throws in her two-year career.

"We are thrilled to announce our signing of Masha Adashchyk from Panola College," Whalen said. "Masha brings our team a tremendous ability to score, rebound and defend at a very high level. Bringing two years of experience at the collegiate level will only benefit our team this season."

As a freshman, Adashchyk played in all 32 games with 19 starts and averaged 12.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Then in her sophomore season, she led Panola with 13.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest, starting all 29 games. She had six 20-point games as a sophomore, including a career-high 50 points in her final game at Panola.

Off the court, Adashchyk was named to the President's List for the spring 2018 semester at Panola. To qualify a student must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours with a grade point average between 3.8 and 4.0.

Adashchyk, who has competed internationally for her home country, becomes the sixth member of the 2019 recruiting class, joining the five that were announced last November.
