The University of Minnesota women's tennis team will welcome Ekin Ercetin to the program beginning in the Fall 2019-20 season.
Hailing from Cankaya Baskent Universitesi in Ankara, Turkey, Ercetin brings a slew of experience at the junior level to the Gophers' roster. Ercetin began her tennis journey while playing in national tournaments at the age of eight before she took her talents to the 14, 16, and 18 year old Turkish national teams. Most recently, Ekin competed with the Turkish national team in 2018 where they pulled out a stunning victory over France while she simultaneously toppled France's No. 1 competitor and ITF Juniors #38. In the two years she has competed in ITF Juniors, Ekin has received G5, G4, and G3 titles in singles and G5 and G3 in doubles. Ercetin currently holds a junior ranking of 240 and looks break the top-100.
"Ekin is going to be a great asset to our team next year," head coach Catrina Thompson said. "We are looking forward to having her join us next Fall and believe she will elevate the level of our team."
