INDIANAPOLIS--As a result of winning the 1-meter springboard competition at the 2019 USA Diving Senior National Diving Championships, University of Minnesota diver Sarah Bacon has earned the opportunity to represent the United States in the 1-meter diving competition at the 2019 FINA World Championships.

The Indianapolis native entered Wednesday's finals as the top seed, having bested 38 other competitors to claim first place in the preliminaries. She notched a score of 294.05, which was more than 20 points higher than the second-place score of Brooke Schults (271.70).

Bacon finished the event finals with a five-dive score of 299.10, earning her second medal of the Trials and her first gold of the meet. The second-place finisher Maria Coburn achieved a score of 295.40 and will join Bacon as a representative of the United States this summer.

Bacon and Minnesota teammate Kristen Hayden will return to the diving well on Friday for the women's 3-meter competition and another chance to compete under the United States' banner this summer. The FINA World Championships will take place this July 12-28 in Gwangju, South Korea.
