Justin Karstadt has kept busy following his Gopher career and will cap his summer representing his home country. Karstadt was named to Team Canada for the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru July 27-31, Gymnastics Canada announced on Monday.

The Pan-American Games take place every four years, the year before the Summer Olympics are set to begin. It will be Karstadt's first time at the event.

Karstadt has an extensive history with the Canadian National Team and had a solid outing at the recent Canadian National Championships. He placed third all-around with a score of 81.550 and qualified for the individual finals on three events: pommel horse, rings and parallel bars. He placed within the top six on each, and his best finish came on p-bars, where he earned the silver medal with a score of 13.933. Justin has had a streak of success on parallel bars, and was the reigning 2018 national champion on the event heading into the national competition.

Earlier this year, Karstadt competed with Team Canada in the University of Calgary International Cup and had a standout performance. Originally slated as an individual competitor, an injury opened up a spot in the team competition and Karstadt made the most of the experience. He placed third all-around with a score of 81.450 and took third on pommel horse, fourth on rings and fifth on parallel bars.

Justin has also represented his country in the 2018 World Challenge Cup in Mersin, Turkey, where he took third on pommel horse and at the 2016 Pacific Rim Championships, taking third as part of Team Canada.

The Pan Am Games is not an Olympic qualifying meet, but Karstadt will try to stick in the lineup and makes strides as Team Canada will attempt to earn a bid for Tokyo 2020.
