Fiser Achieves All-American Status
5/29/2019 4:06:00 PM | Softball
Amber Fiser has thrived throughout the NCAA Tournament and looked right at place alongside some of the nation's best players at the NFCA All-American press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
It is fitting that Fiser has been named a First Team All-American for the first time in her career in the same season the Gophers are in Oklahoma City for the Women's College World Series for the first time.
The junior ace has pitched all 36 innings of the NCAA Tournament and is 5-0 with 38 strikeouts and a 0.78 ERA. She was featured on SportsCenter and threw out the first pitch at the Minnesota Twins games on Sunday after her three-hit shutout against LSU to send the Gophers to the WCWS.
This season, Fiser is 31-7 with a 1.17 ERA and 339 strikeouts. She is third in the NCAA in wins, fifth in strikeouts and 12th in ERA. Her 31 wins on the season is tied for second all-time in program history with Sara Groenewegen who did it three times. Sara Moulton has the school record with 32 victories.
The Van Horne, Iowa native was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. She also picked up six Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors this season, which set a new program record and tied a conference record. She is just the third player in conference history to earn six Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season and the first since 2011. She also picked up two Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
Fiser is the 13th Gopher to receive All-American honors in her career. Minnesota has had an All-American honoree in seven straight seasons now. Fiser and the No. 7 seed Gophers will play No. 2 seed UCLA at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN at the WCWS tomorrow.
