Gophers Sign King for 2019-20

Olivia King joins Makayla Pahl, Sydney Shearen, and Madeline Wethington to make up the newest class of Golden Gophers.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's hockey program and head coach Brad Frost are pleased to announce the addition of Olivia King, a left-handed goaltender from Brainerd High School, for the 2019-20 season. King joins Makayla Pahl, Sydney Shearen, and Madeline Wethington to make up the newest class of Golden Gophers.
Olivia King, Goaltender, Garrison, Minn. (Brainerd High School)
A left-handed goaltender, Olivia King joins the Gophers from Brainerd High School. King led the Warriors to a 25-5-1 overall record and state runner-up finish at the 2019 Minnesota Class AA State Tournament as a senior. She earned a place on the state all-tournament team after recording a 1.88 goals against average and .944 save percentage with one shutout in three state tournament games; as a senior, King had a 1.61 goals against average and a .920 save percentage with five shutouts in 30 games played. A four-time Central Lakes All-Conference honoree in hockey, King was a three-sport letterwinner who earned five letters in hockey, three in soccer, and one in lacrosse at Brainerd High School. King attended USA Hockey Development Camps in 2015 and 2016 as well. She is the daughter of Kurt King.
Frost on King: We are very excited to have Olivia join our program. She is an excellent goaltender and a wonderful person. Olivia will add greatly to our culture.
King on Why Minnesota: It's a dream come true. When I came on my visit here, I knew I couldn't pass it up. It was immediate that I knew I wanted to come here. I'm looking forward to the culture and being a part of the team. I'm really excited to meet everyone and get close to everyone; that's something that's most important to me, having people around you who care about you and you care about them. You create something that's so special, and that's huge to me. The school is amazing, obviously, and everyone I've talked to has said that this is the best place and it's the best four years of your life.
