Young Places Fifth at USATF U20 Championship

Amira Young clocked a Minnesota program record time of 11.36 seconds in the 100-meter dash on Saturday.
MIRAMAR, Fla. -- University of Minnesota freshman Amira Young placed fifth in the 100-meter dash as the lone Golden Gopher representative competing at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships this weekend at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Fla.
Amira Young posted a career-best time of 11.36 seconds, moving into sole possession of Minnesota's program record in the 100-meter dash. Young's PR was good for fifth in the field on Saturday after she advanced to the final with the seventh-best prelim time at 11.49 seconds.
Young had an outstanding freshman season for the Maroon & Gold, earning All-Big Ten Second Team honors with a runner-up finish in the 100m dash. The Chicago native tied the Gophers' program record time of 11.37 seconds during the NCAA West Prelim, matching the 100m record held by Tahesia Harrigan since 2002. She ended her rookie season ranked third in Minnesota history in the 200m at 23.59 seconds as well.
