Gophers in the Pros: Molly Lohman

Molly Lohman played with the Gopher Volleyball team from 2014-2017. Playing in 124 career matches for the Gophers, the Mankato, Minn., native was named a AVCA All-America honorable mention. She finished her Minnesota career with 536 blocks, which tied for third in school history. Working on a beach career at TCU, Lohman received a professional contract to play professionally this past year. Read up on Lohman's experience in this recent Gophers in the Pros.
How did signing your pro contract transpire?
I was completing my 5th year of eligibility at TCU playing beach volleyball when I was offered a contract to go play indoor volleyball in Manila, Philippines. TCU was really great and I enjoyed my time there, but I could not pass up the offer.
How has your experience been so far in your first professional season?
My first professional season was such a learning experience for me. Getting thrown in to a new culture across the world is not easy. I learned so much about the Filipino culture and was able to build relationships with my Filipino teammates and team management. I am very grateful for the people I met along the way, they all made sure we were well taken care of.
Tell us about your team and how the season went?
Our season ended in April, and we didn't end up as we wanted but the team is still growing a ton. They are the newest team in the league (Sta. Lucia Realtors), so we had a season full of ups and downs. It was really cool to share my past experiences and to see and help the team learn and grow.
Have you had a favorite location you've traveled to or what has been the best part about your experience?
I was so fortunate to be able to travel after our season was over. The islands of the Philippines are the most incredible places I have ever seen. My favorite was an Island called Palawan, I instantly fell in love with the water and the rocky formations emerging from the waters. I recommend this as a must see travel destination!
What lies ahead after your season is complete?
As for now, I am home for the summer and will be training and getting ready for next season abroad! It is still up in the air for where I will be going next.
