Bethany Hasz made her NCAA debut with a 10th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Bethany Hasz made her NCAA track & field debut with a 10th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run to wrap up the 2019 NCAA Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Hasz ran 16:18.13 to secure her top-10 showing at the national meet after coming into the competition seeded 11th overall. Earlier this spring, she improved on her own Minnesota program record in the 5,000-meter run with a career-best mark of 15:45.72 at the Stanford Invitational; she also finished third in the Big Ten Conference in the event.

The Alexandria, Minn., native became the third Gopher in program history to represent the Maroon & Gold in the outdoor 5,000-meters at the NCAA meet, joining Laura Docherty (18th in 2013) and Lori Townsend (sixth in 1995). A Kinesiology major, Hasz earned CoSIDA Academic All District and Academic All-Big Ten honors this season as well.

The Minnesota women tied for 48th in the team standings with four points on Temi Ogunrinde's fifth-place finish in hammer throw. Meanwhile, the Gopher men tied for 40th with five points behind Obsa Ali's fourth-place showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

With Hasz's performance, the Gophers closed out the 2019 NCAA Championships with six All-America nods as Ogunrinde and Ali and earned First Team honors and Hasz joined Tess Keyzers, Alec Basten, and Kieran McKeag in picking up Second Team accolades.
