MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's hockey program has released its full schedule for the 2019-20 season. The 23rd season of Gopher women's hockey begins with a pair of exhibition matches followed by a 33-game regular-season campaign in search of an NCAA Women's Frozen Four berth and the program's eighth national title.

Under the direction of head coach Brad Frost, who returns for his 13th season at the helm of the program, the Gophers unofficially open the season by hosting the Toronto Aeros (Sept. 21) and the Minnesota Whitecaps (Sept. 22) in two exhibition games at Ridder Arena. A third exhibition game against Hamline University, an NCAA Division III opponent coached by Gopher great Natalie Darwitz, is also on the Gophers' schedule (Nov. 5).

The 2019-20 season officially begins with a non-conference series against Colgate (Sept. 27-28) at Ridder Arena before WCHA play begins the second week of the regular season with a trip to Minnesota State (Oct. 4-5).

Along with the Colgate series, Minnesota's non-conference slate also includes a road series with Robert Morris (Oct. 11-12) and a home series with Yale (Jan. 4-5). The Gophers face Boston College (Nov. 29) and Harvard (Nov. 30) in non-conference play in Nashville, Tenn., and the 2019 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Game pits the Gophers against Minnesota State (Dec. 7) in a non-league match-up at Dakotah Arena in Prior Lake, Minn.

WCHA play in the first half of the regular season has St. Cloud State (Oct. 19-20), Wisconsin (Nov. 2-3), and Bemidji State (Nov. 15-16) visiting Ridder Arena with road trips to Minnesota State (Oct. 4-5), Ohio State (Oct. 25-26), and Minnesota Duluth (Nov. 22-23).

The series with Ohio State includes one game at Ridder Arena (Jan. 17) followed by an outdoor game as part of Hockey Day Minnesota (Jan. 18) at an outdoor rink constructed at Parade Stadium near the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in downtown Minneapolis.

The postseason begins with the WCHA First Round (Feb. 28-March 1). All seven league teams advance to the 2020 WCHA Postseason Tournament, seeded by finish in the final regular season standings. As a reward for emerging as either WCHA champion or co-champion following the league schedule, the top-seeded team will earn a bye for the WCHA First Round and advance directly to the WCHA Final Faceoff. The remaining six teams will play best-of-three, WCHA First Round series, hosted by the higher seeds, the weekend of Feb. 28 through March 1. The three winners advance to join the top seed at the 2020 WCHA Final Faceoff hosted by the Gophers at Ridder Arena (March 7-8).

The NCAA Tournament begins with four quarterfinal matchups on Saturday, March 14. The 2020 NCAA Women's Frozen Four will be held a week later as the top four teams in the nation compete for the national crown at Agganis Arena in Boston, Mass. Semifinal action is set for Friday, March 20 with the championship game to follow on Sunday, March 22. Boston University will host this year's Frozen Four.
