Martin Named to Butkus Award Preseason Watch List

Minnesota linebacker Kamal Martin was named to the preseason watch list today for the Butkus Award. The award is presented annually to the nation's best linebacker.
Martin, who is from Burnsville, Minn., started nine of 12 games last season and recorded 59 tackles (34 solo), which included 3.5 for loss. The 6-3, 245-pound senior also broke up two passes.
Martin has played in 37 career games and has made 111 career tackles (70 solo). He also has 10.5 career tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Martin has two career interceptions, has forced two fumbles and recovered three.
Martin and Minnesota open the season on Thursday, Aug. 29, at home against South Dakota State. Tickets are on sale now.
