Minnesota placeholder thanked Minnesota Viking quarterback Kirk Cousins for helping him prep for speech

University of Minnesota placeholder Casey O'Brien visited the Minnesota Vikings training camp on Saturday.

O'Brien recently gave the keynote speech on behalf of all football student-athletes at the Big Ten Football Kickoff Luncheon on July 18 at the Hilton Chicago. To prep for the speech, O'Brien connected with Viking quarterback Kirk Cousins, who had given the same speech when he attended Michigan State in 2011.

O'Brien, who is a four-time cancer survivor, thanked Cousins on Saturday for helping him prepare for the speech. He also chatted briefly with Viking specialists, receiver Adam Thielen and tight end Kyle Rudolph at the end of the team's practice.  O'Brien and Rudolph have gotten to know one another quite well. Rudolph is a frequent visitor to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital, which is where O'Brien was treated. Rudolph also unveiled Kyle Rudolph's End Zone, a child- and teen-friendly space for patients at the hospital in 2017.
