Minnesota Emerging as a Top Destination in College Baseball

MINNEAPOLIS – For decades, Minnesota Head Baseball Coach John Anderson has been preaching the importance of the long-term development of his players. As a collective staff, Anderson wants his coaches to understand that they are not simply coaching a group of 30-40 young men to succeed in baseball, but for their futures outside of the game as well.
"We are preparing student-athletes for the next 50 years of their lives," Anderson said.
If one really were to take the time to look into this claim, they would quickly find that it is not just a facade; not a recruiting tool to lure the best and brightest to Siebert Field. In reality, Coach Anderson and the Minnesota staff are doing exactly what they say, as evidenced by the fact that virtually every player that has passed through their program the past eight seasons has graduated.
Dating back to the 2010-11 season, the Gopher Baseball program has finished with a perfect 1000 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) six times. On top of this, Minnesota's program currently owns a 94% Graduate Success Rate (GSR). Translated into layman's terms, baseball players are coming to the U, making progress towards their degrees and graduating on time.
Coupled with these remarkable statistics is the current status of Minnesota's roster, in which all eligible players to return will be doing so. In a sport where transferring has become all the more common in recent years, not one Gopher elected to test the waters this past offseason – something only four Power Five programs in the nation can claim.
Not only are ballplayers coming to Minnesota and graduating, but they are exhibiting that the grass is greenest in Minneapolis after getting a taste of the Gopher baseball culture.
