Tififany Huber came to Minnesota in 2018-19 after transferring from Louisville. In her first year with the Gophers, Huber has already made her mark. She went 17-11 as a junior, where she went 14-9 in dual action. Primarily competing at the No. 2 singles, Huber was 14-8. She partenered with Tina Kreinis at the No. 2 doubles and won seven matches. Already graduating with a bachleor's degree in business and marketing education, Huber is looking to add a master's degree as well as a hopeful NCAA appearance her senior year. Find out what she's been up to this summer in our recent spotlight.
Looking back at the 2018-19 season, what were some of your favorite moments from the past year?
Tiffany Huber: Looking back at last year, I thought it was great how the team was able to come together in the early part of the season leading to a fast start and a lot of early wins. One of the best moments was when we all came together and played great to win a huge Big 10 match against Northwestern. Also having the opportunity to clinch a couple of critical team wins including against FIU and Nebraska.
It was your first year with the Gophers in 2018-19. How did the transition go for you?
TH: The transition was actually quite easy for me. The culture of the team and the attitude of the coaches makes everyone feel welcome and included. I really enjoyed the support of my teammates as we worked hard to achieve the same goal.
Since the semester wrapped up, tell us what you've been up to this summer?
TH: I stayed in Minnesota this summer. I took a few classes, I had a marketing internship, and I just recently accepted a position to be on the Gen Z advisory board with the Minnesota Vikings. I am very excited for that opportunity!
You were a part of the Leadership U retreat in Chicago. What were some of the things you did when you were on the retreat and what was something you took away from this experience that you could apply to your team or after college?
TH: I really enjoyed the opportunity to attend this retreat. It was very enlightening to see that despite the differences in sports, the teams all seem to deal with common issues such as balancing academic and athletic priorities, assimilating new members, and creating a collaborative culture that pushes all the athletes to be their best. The biggest takeaway I gained from this experience was exposure to diverse perspectives which we can apply directly to the leadership of our team.
You've already accomplished a bachelor's degree and now working on your masters. What is your masters going to be in, and what would you like to do with it?
TH: Yes! I just graduated officially last week. I'm starting my masters in human resources this fall. I hope to apply this degree to increasingly important leadership positions in the sports industry.
You'll be a senior next year, what would you like to accomplish in your final year with the Gophers?
TH: Being a senior, I am looking forward to being a leader for the team, helping my new teammates assimilate to their athletic and academic challenges and being supportive for my teammates and the coaching staff. As a team, making NCAA's is our biggest goal!
