Brodt Brown Re-Signs with Whitecaps

Gophers alumna Winny Brodt Brown will return to the ice with the NWHL's Minnesota Whitecaps this season.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota alumna Winny Brodt Brown has signed a contract to return to the Minnesota Whitecaps for the 2019-20 season. A Whitecaps veteran, Brodt Brown returns for her second season in the NWHL.
"My goal for the season is to come back stronger than ever and help the Whitecaps have another successful season," said Brodt Brown in a statement from the NWHL.
An original member of the Minnesota Whitecaps, Brodt Brown helped the squad win the Isobel Cup in its first season competing in the NWHL last year, playing in 16 games in 2018-19.
Brodt Brown played for the Gophers during the 1998-99, 1999-00, and 2002-03 seasons. In 96 career games, she totaled 134 career points with 41 goals and 93 assists. She was named the 2000 WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist and led the Gophers to the 2000 AWCHA national championship. Brodt Brown still ranks second in career points and third in both career goals and assists among all-time Gopher defense.
The Roseville, Minn., native was the first-ever winner of the Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award and was a member of the U.S. National Team program for a decade. She began her college career at New Hampshire, where she won the inaugural AWCHA national championship in the 1997-98 season. In February 2018, Brodt Brown served as a coach at the NWHL All-Star Game in Saint Paul, Minn.
