Summer Spotlight: River Hart

8/26/2019 9:28:00 AM | Tennis

River Hart has had a busy summer. The Nassau, Bahamas native notched 12 wins during the 2018-2019 season and is looking forward to a strong start for her junior year. From traveling to Canada with her family, to training all of July in Spain, check out what River Hart has been up to this summer!

Looking back at the 2018-19 season, what were some of your favorite moments from the past year?
River Hart: We all came into the season prepared and ready to go so it was nice to see all our hard work pay off in matches. Looking back on the year, my favorite moment was beating Northwestern and seeing us improve as a unit. I enjoyed every day with my team and battling through the tough times together made that victory even more enjoyable. We all grew so much and I am excited to see what happens this coming season.

Since the semester wrapped up, tell us what you've been up to this summer?
RH: I have actually been traveling a lot this summer. I spent the month of June going across Canada with my family, exploring new cities and enjoying some time off. I then flew to Spain and trained there throughout the whole month of July. Me and my sister managed to take a weekend to explore France and Italy which was extremely fun. Since then I have been home in the Bahamas coaching and working in a restaurant near my house.

Have you decided on a major and if so, what is it and what would you like to do once school is done?
RH:  I am majoring in BME (Business Marketing and Education). I am not exactly sure yet what I want to do once school is over, but I definitely want to apply all the skills I acquire in the BME program to the culinary industry--which is where I ultimately want to be working. I am very passionate about food and so I want to gain as much knowledge as I can in the business field and combine that with my passion for food and athletics.

What's something that you'd like to work on from a tennis standpoint this season?
RH: I really want to work on my mental game for this upcoming season. I think the main thing that sets players apart at our level is mental toughness and so I really want to focus on becoming the best version of myself possible to be ready for the season. Confidence comes from doing the right things in practice, so I am going to focus on making each day count.

What are you most looking forward to this upcoming season?
RH: My team is my family so I am excited to work hard and get through the season with them on and off the court. I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates and seeing what great things they will bring to our dynamic. I have great hopes for us this season so I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish and where we can go.
