8/28/2019 10:26:00 AM | Tennis
Bella Lambert has spent her summer on campus playing tennis and taking summer classes. The sophomore from Minneapolis, Minn. clinched two singles wins in the fall and ended the spring season with with a big doubles win against Green Bay. Currently at the US Open, see what Lambert has to say about her summer and the upcoming year.
Looking back at the 2018-19 season, what were some of your favorite moments from the past year?
Bella Lambert: One of my favorite moments from the past year was when we clinched against Northwestern. We had been working super hard as a team and it really showed the hard work paying off. Another one of my favorite moments was traveling to Big Tens together and letting it soak it that it was the last tournament of the season. It was a tough loss against Illinois, but we all stayed very positive and learned from the experience.
Since the semester wrapped up, tell us what you've been up to this summer?
BL: I have been living on campus and taking some summer classes. I also worked at the Nike Camp at The University of Minnesota throughout June, which is always really fun. I also got to play a few different ITA tournaments in Denver, Kansas, and Minnesota, and am having a lot of fun training with some teammates as well. Lastly, I am currently at the US Open and got to watch some of the top players which is really cool!
It was your first full season with the Gophers, how did that transition go for you as you move into the college game?
BL: The transition was definitely not easy because college and junior levels are so different. It was nice to have an extra semester when I redshirted to adjust and take it all in. That definitely made my freshman year an easier adjustment. I'm really enjoying playing at this level and learning how to continue to get better.
Have you decided on a major and if so, what is it and what would you like to do once school is done?
BL: I am transferring into The Carlson School Of Management this semester and am thinking something like Finance or HR. Once I take some classes this semester I'm hoping I have a better idea of what I want to major in. I would like to get an internship in the next couple years during the summer, but I am not exactly sure what I want to do after school yet.
What's something that you'd like to work on from a tennis standpoint this season?
BL: I want to work on playing fearlessly all the time and keeping my confidence. Both are super important factors in matches and I know working on them will help me drastically.
What are you most looking forward to this upcoming season?
BL: I'm really looking forward to seeing my teammates and meeting the incoming girls. It's always fun working hard with them and sharing these moments together as a team. I'm also looking forward to us competing and getting better throughout the fall/spring.
