Ten Gophers Named CGA All-American Scholars

The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team finished as the No. 3 academic team and 10 athletes were named All-American Scholar Athletes by the College Gymnastics Association, the outlet announced Thursday.
The squad improved on its fifth-place finish last year to come in third this year, the highest of any Big Ten team. The Gophers carried a combined GPA of 3.285, only behind Stanford and William and Mary.
With GPAs over 3.20, ten Minnesota gymnasts were named to the first and second All-American Scholar Athlete teams. Minnesota tied with fellow Big Ten teams Ohio State and Penn State for the most representatives in the conference, and third-most overall. Rising junior Colton Dee was just one of 11 athletes to attain a 4.0 GPA, while Justin Karstadt received his fourth and final honor, one of 16 gymnasts to do so in all of their years of eligibility.
Dee, Karstadt, Henry Meeker, George Khoury, Ben Winkel, Vitali Kan and Timmy Kutyla were all named to the First Team, and Jake Sawyer, Eric Nakamura and Shaun Herzog earned spots on the Second Team.
