Three Gophers Set for U.S. Championships

8/6/2019 2:20:00 PM | Men's Gymnastics

Three Gophers will don the maroon and gold on the national stage this week as Shane Wiskus, Crew Bold and Donte McKinney are set to compete at the U.S. National Championships in Kansas City, Mo. Wiskus will compete in the senior division, while Bold and McKinney will represent Minnesota in the junior field.

Wiskus is no stranger to national competition and came into last year's championships as a member of the Senior National Team. His highest finish came on high bar, where he took seventh with a two-day score of 26.600, and he placed 20th all-around. This time out, Wiskus has his second NCAA season under his belt, which resulted in his second consecutive Big Ten Gymnast of the Year award, a parallel bars national title and three All-American plaudits.

Bold recently qualified for the event after a commanding performance at the national qualifier in July. He took first place all-around with a two-day score of 129.900 and also took gold on rings (21.250), parallel bars (22.300) and high bar (22.500). He competed in last year's championships in Boston and had top 10 finishes on floor, pommel horse, vault and high bar.

McKinney punched his ticket to the national championships following the the 2019 Men's Junior Olympic National Championships, where he posted six top 10 finishes: second all-around and on pommel horse, third on floor and vault, fourth on high bar and seventh on rings. McKinney's last nationals appearance came in 2017, where he placed second on vault and eighth on floor, parallel bars and high bar.

The men's competition will begin on Thursday, August 8 with the juniors slated for 1 p.m. and the seniors at 6:30. Day two will include the same time slots for both divisions and takes place on Saturday, August 10. Bold and McKinney will rotate together starting on rings, and Wiskus will kick things off on high bar.

All junior and senior sessions can be streamed live via USA Gymnastics and on YouTube, and both senior Day 1 and Day 2 sessions will air live beginning at 7 p.m. on NBCSN. Day 2 competition will also air again on NBCSN preceding the women's senior finals on Sunday, August 11 at 3 p.m. Live stats can be found at USA Gymnastic's championship central, and fans can also follow the Gophers on FacebookTwitter and Instagram for coverage.
