Break down Minnesota's 2019-20 non-conference match-ups.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's hockey team's 2019-20 schedule includes nine non-conference games. Break down the Gophers' non-conference opponents and mark your calendars for these exciting match-ups.

Colgate Raiders
Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 at Ridder Arena

About the Raiders: Colgate saw its 2018-19 season come to an end in the ECAC Hockey semifinals, falling to NCAA semifinalist Clarkson by a score of 2-0. The Raiders posted an overall record of 23-10-5 and finished tied for second in the ECAC Hockey regular-season standings at 15-4-3. The 2019-20 season marks head coach Greg Fargo's eighth year at the helm of the program, and the Raiders have eight newcomers, made up of seven freshmen and one transfer, joining 13 returners to make up this year's roster.

Frost on Colgate: Colgate finished right around number 10 in the country last year, and they have some really good young players, some freshmen and sophomores who are tremendous. It should be a great weekend to open our season. I think they'll be in the top eight by the end of the year, so it should be a really good top-10 match-up.

Robert Morris Colonials
Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

About the Colonials: Robert Morris posted a 16-14-6 overall record a year ago, including a 13-4-3 mark in College Hockey America conference play. The Colonials won the CHA regular-season title but saw their season end with a loss to Syracuse in the CHA championship game. RMU enters its 15th season of NCAA Division I women's hockey in 2019-20 season under the director of head coach Paul Colontino, who enters his ninth season leading the team. The Colonials are led by seniors Sarah Lecavalier, Jaycee Gebhard, and Natalie Marcuzzi and add six rookies to their roster.

Frost on Robert Morris: We're excited to get out to Robert Morris on the road to Pittsburgh, we've never been out there before. They're generally one of the top teams in the CHA. We had a great series against them last year and would expect it to be even tougher going out to their place.

Country Classic
Boston College Eagles

Friday, Nov. 29 in Nashville, Tenn.

About the Eagles: Boston College enters the 2019-20 season after recording a 26-12-1 overall record with a 19-7-1 mark in Hockey East play last season. The 2018-19 Eagles fell to eventual NCAA semifinalist Clarkson in the NCAA quarterfinal in a 2-1 overtime decision. This season, head coach Katie Crowley returns for her 13th season leading the program, and the Eagles have 15 returners with six newcomers on the roster.

Frost on Boston College: We're really excited about heading to Nashville, first and foremost, and playing two of the top Eastern teams out there. BC has been a perennial top-four team in the country, and we really haven't played many non-conference games against them; it always seems to be in the Frozen Four or the NCAA tournament. We're looking forward to a great match-up there.

Country Classic
Harvard Crimson

Saturday, Nov. 30 in Nashville, Tenn.

About the Crimson: Harvard posted an overall record of 12-15-5 and went 9-9-4 in ECAC Hockey action last season, dropping a best-of-three series to Colgate in the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals to end the season. The Crimson enter the 2019-20 season with head coach Katey Stone beginning her 25th season leading the program. Harvard's roster includes seven first year student-athletes joining 19 returning members from the 2018-19 roster, highlighted by veteran goaltender Lindsay Reed and four of its top five scorers from a year ago.

Frost on Harvard: Harvard is a team that I think is getting back to prominence. They may have dipped a little bit the last couple years, but starting with a great goaltender in Lindsay Reed, they're going to be a very tough team. It should be a lot of fun playing teams from the East.

U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Game
Minnesota State Mavericks

Saturday, Dec. 7 in Prior Lake, Minn.

About the Mavericks: Minnesota State finished the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 9-19-7, the program's best mark since going 13-23-1 in 2013-14, and placed sixth in the WCHA regular season standings at 3-16-5 in league play. Under the direction of head coach John Harrington, who returns for his fifth season leading the squad, MSU adds seven newcomers to a 2019-20 roster that includes 16 veterans returning from a year ago.

Frost on the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Game: We're looking forward to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame game. We've played in it a few other times, and we've had great crowds going into some community arenas. That will be no different going to Prior Lake and play in their community arena against Minnesota State, who we know it a team on the rise in our league. It's going to be a good opportunity to pack the rink and raise some money for a good cause.

Yale Bulldogs
Saturday, Jan. 4 and Sunday, Jan. 5 at Ridder Arena

About the Bulldogs: Yale wrapped up the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 8-18-3 while going 7-12-3 in ECAC Hockey play, finishing ninth in the ECAC regular-season standings. The team enters the 2019-20 season under the direction of new head coach Mark Bolding, who was named Yale's Susan Cavanagh Head Coach for Women's Ice Hockey in April 2019 after serving as head coach of Norwich University for 12 seasons. Yale returns six of its top seven scorers and two of the three goaltenders from last season.

Frost on Yale: Yale is a team that we've played in the past. We had a good series with them out there last year, and now to get them at our place. It's always fun to place non-conference opponents, especially at home, and right after Christmas is a great time to do that to kick off the new year. A new coaching staff, still a very talented team, and a team that will be very formidable.

Minnesota's 2019-20 schedule also includes the always-challenging WCHA league schedule, which features 24 games comprised of two series (one home and one away) against each of the other six member institutions. The chase for the Julianne Bye Cup begins the weekend of Oct. 4-5 and concludes Feb. 21-22.
