Murphy Signs on with Minnesota Timberwolves
9/16/2019 4:31:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas today announced the team has signed forward Jordan Murphy. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.
Murphy, 22, played for the Timberwolves in the 2019 MGM Resorts NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, averaging 8.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game over seven games.
One of the most accomplished players in school history, Murphy led the Big Ten in rebounding with 11.0 boards per game, ranking seventh nationally, and was second in the country and conference leader with 21 double-doubles. Murphy was second on the Gophers scoring 14.4 points per game including 24 games with 10 or more points this season and five 20-plus scoring efforts. He started every game this season and is second on the team in field goal shooting (48.7 percent) and blocks (29) while ranking third in assists (93).
Murphy, who was an All-Big Ten first team selection by the media and second team by the coaches, also earned All-District honors from the NABC and USBWA and was an All-Big Ten second team selection by the Associated Press.
Murphy is the Gophers' second all-time leading scorer with 1,802 career points, and is the school's leading rebounder with 1,307 boards, second all-time in Big Ten history. His 67 career double-doubles is also a school record and second in Big Ten history.
He is the second recent Gopher to sign with an NBA team, after Amir Coffey signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this summer.
