Trio Receives B1G Weekly Honors

University of Minnesota student-athletes Stephanie Samedy, Regan Pittman and Kylie Miller all garnered Big Ten weekly honors in a pair of wins against ranked teams last week. Samedy was named the Big Ten's Player of the Week, Pittman was named Defensive Player of the Week and Miller was named Setter of the Week. It marks Samedy and Pittman's first time this season, and Miller's second-straight setter of the week award.
Samedy, a 6-foot, 2-inch opposite hitter led the Gophers with 35 kills in 96 attempts and averaged 5.00 kills per set in a pair of wins over ranked teams, No. 10 Oregon and No. 1 Stanford. She also had 22 digs (to average 3.14 per set), had seven blocks and two aces. Against the Ducks, the Clermont, Fla., native had a match-best 14 kills, two aces and 11 digs for her fourth double-double. She followed with a 21-kill performance in 59 attempts, had 11 digs and six blocks. On the season, she leads the team with 94 kills and averages 4.95 kills per set with five double-doubles this season.
Pittman, a 6-foot, 5-inch middler blocker from Spring Hill, Kan., averaged 2.00 blocks per set in a pair of wins over No. 10 Oregon and No. 1 Stanford. She also hit .410 on the weekend and had 19 kills. Against Oregon, Pittman had seven kills in 15 attempts and hit .400, while she had seven blocks. On Saturday against the Cardinal, Pittman tallied another seven blocks, a team best, as the Gophers had a season-best 13 blocks in a single match. She also hit .417 and had 12 kills in 24 attempts.
Miller, a 5-foot, 11-inch setter from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., averaged 12.57 assists per set last week. She also added 25 digs, two aces and five blocks. Against Oregon, Miller had 38 assists, an ace and a block. On Saturday against the Cardinal, Miller added a season-best 50 assists, completed the double-double with 17 digs and added four blocks, including one solo. Minnesota hit .247 on the weekend against ranked opponents.
The Golden Gophers close out the nonconference portion of their schedule when they host the annual Diet Coke Classic, Sept. 19-21 at Maturi Pavilion. Minnesota takes on Clemson Thursday night and Oral Roberts Saturday. Both match times begin at 7 p.m. On Friday, Clemson and Oral Roberts will compete in a neutral site match at Maturi Pavilion, at 5 p.m.
