Gophers Open Diet Coke Classic with 3-0 Win Over Clemson

The No. 7 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Clemson, tonight, at Maturi Pavilion. The Golden Gophers won 25-22, 25-22, 26-24, to open the Diet Coke Classic. The Gophers improve to 5-2 overall this season.
Stephanie Samedy and Regan Pittman led the Gophers when they each had nine kills. Samedy added a double-double with 15 digs, and provided an ace and five blocks. Pittman had nine kills, hit .300 and had five blocks. Kylie Miller posted 27 assists, 10 digs, a block and an ace. Along with Samedy and Miller, the Gophers also had Adanna Rollins and CC McGraw in double-digit digs when they each had 12 respectively.
As a team, Minnesota hit .195 to Clemson's .147. Although the Tigers led in digs, 64-60, Minnesota led in blocks, 12-7.
Noteable
Stephanie Samedy recorded her sixth double-double of the season and fourth-straight. Miller adds her second double-double of the season.

Minnesota concludes the Diet Coke Classic Saturday night when the Gophers face Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Clemson and Oral Roberts play tomorrow night at 5 p.m., also at Maturi Pavilion in a neutral match.
First Set: Minnesota held the lead from the 1-1 spot and never looked back. The Gophers 14 kills, two blocks and two aces for the set win.
Second Set: Tied at 18-18, Minnesota went up 20-18 off a Samedy/Morgan block and a Clemson attack error to take the lead for good and later the 25-22 set win.
Third Set: Minnesota built a 17-12 lead off two blocks and a kill. The Tigers fought back and tied the set at 23 and again at 24. The Gophers, however, closed out the set off a Clemson service error and a Rollins kill to win the set and match.
