MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team opened up the 2019-2020 season today, hosting the annual Gopher Invitational at Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers are off to a strong start, with a combined 16-0 record the first day. Minnesota went 8-0 in singles, and also 8-0 in doubles. Every Gopher advanced in Saturday's singles flight, which is set to begin approximately at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow.

The Gophers won eight straight doubles matches with the combos of Frei/Ercetin, Kreinis/De Santa Ana, Huber/Hart, and Zhang/Lambert.
Quotables
"It was a solid day for us, a lot of positives," head coach Catrina Thompson said. "To go 16-0 on the day and have everyone come off the court as winners is something that we are really happy about."
"As a freshman it was exciting," said Ekin Ercetin. "I was stressed the first match, singles and doubles, but as I kept playing I got more comfortable with myself. I won because even though it wasn't my day, I need to win."
