Minnesota Ranked 49th College Baseball Program in Country

MINNEAPOLIS – In the bi-annual rankings released by d1baseball.com, Minnesota has been ranked as the 49th overall baseball program in the country. This system aims to evaluate collegiate programs based on their overall health in the current era of competition.
The ranking marks quite an achievement for the Gophers, as 2019 is the first time the Minnesota baseball program has cracked the top 50 since this system began in 2015. That year, Minnesota just barely made the list at no. 100.
Two years later, in 2017, the Gophers were awarded with the no. 72 ranking. With the release of the 2019 list, Minnesota's no. 49 ranking demonstrates a climb of 23 spots in just two years and an upward move of 51 spots in four years.
Although head coach John Anderson will enter his 39th season at the helm of the program in 2020, Minnesota has shown an increased ability to improve even in recent years. This can be attributed in large part to enhancements in recruiting, facilities and developing a national brand of successful Major League Baseball alumni.
The 2019 rankings place Minnesota ahead of the likes of several notable college programs, including Illinois (50), Nebraska (51), Ohio State (54), California (56), Kentucky (58), Iowa (67), Tennessee (69), Maryland (70), Creighton (77), Alabama (78) and Mizzou (94).
