9/23/2019 9:07:00 AM | Softball
With the 2019 fall season around the corner it's time to start getting to know the newcomers! "First Pitch" is back for another season. Our first guest is Delanie Cox from Aurora, Colo. Cox was an NFCA All-American and made the Softball America Top-300 incoming freshmen list. She was also named the Cherokee Trails High School Female Athlete of the Year.
Gopher Sports: How did you decide on Minnesota?
Delanie Cox: The second I stepped on campus at Minnesota I knew that I wanted to spend my next four years here. The environment is one that I didn't find anywhere else and it just spoke to me.
GS: What is one thing you want to make sure you do around the cities this year?
DC: I have heard that Minnehaha Park is a place to visit, and being from Colorado I really enjoy beautiful scenes.
GS: How have the interactions with your teammates been going?
DC: I absolutely love each and every teammate. They all bring something different to my life, and I am so grateful to get the chance to know them and play softball with them.
GS: Is there anything the coaches are having you personally work on or the team as a whole?
DC: We just recently learned a different technique of throwing that in turn will hopefully improve our motions and save our arms from injury.
GS: What is it about the game of softball that you love?
DC: It's a game of working for others and playing your best for the ones you love. You can express yourself and your love for others by playing your best for them and that's an unmatched feeling.
GS: What activities do you enjoy outside of softball?
DC: I love to paint and sketch landscapes.
GS: If you could hit a home run off any celebrity who would you choose and why?
DC: If I could I would hit a home run off of Jon Lester from the Chicago Cubs just because my family and I are huge fans of the Cubs.
GS: Have you thought about what your walk-up song will be this year?
DC: I didn't think about my walk-up song until I got on campus so I am still in the process of choosing one.
GS: You are stuck on an elevator for an entire day but could have any one teammate with you. Who are you choosing and why?
DC: I would have to choose Hope Brandner because she always has something funny to say and she is the type of person you can be around without getting bored.
