Gophers Open Big Ten Season with 3-0 Win

The No. 7 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-0 win, tonight over Indiana to kick off the Big Ten Conference season. Winning the match in just one hour and 13 minutes, the Golden Gophers won 25-11, 25-10, 25-11, at Maturi Pavilion in front of 5,700 fans. With the win, the Gophers improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in league action.
Outside hitters Adanna Rollins and Alexis Hart paced the Gopher offense when they had 11 and 10 kills respectively. Rollins hit .647 in the win, while Hart hit .350. Taylor Morgan followed with eight kills and a career-best 11 blocks and hit .538. Regan Pittman added six kills (hit .750), two aces and four blocks. CC McGraw led the team with nine digs and Kylie Miller added 32 assists, an ace, six digs and three blocks.
As a team, the Golden Gophers hit .444, had five aces, 43 digs and 15 blocks. They held the Hoosiers to a .011 hitting clip, just one ace, 28 digs and two blocks.

Hugh McCutcheon on the Gophers' start in Big Ten action: "It's a great start and a really very strong performance by our team tonight. It's some of the best volleyball we've played all year."
Notables:
-Taylor Morgan bested her previous career mark of nine blocks with 11 this evening. Her previous best came in the win over Bryant during the NCAA tournament last year.
-Minnesota accomplished 15 blocks in the match, which bettered the previous season best of 13 set against Stanford.
-Tonight marked the second-straight match the Gophers have held their opponent to under a .100 hit percentage. The Gophers held Oral Roberts to .065 in the Diet Coke Classic conclusion.

Minnesota hosts No. 15 Purdue, tomorrow night at Maturi Pavilion. The Golden Gophers and Boilermakers face each other at 7 p.m., on Big Ten Network.
How they won:
First Set: Minnesota hit .462 in the opening set and added six blocks to win the first set, 25-11. In the first set alone, Hart added four kills in six attempts. The Gophers held Indiana to just nine kills as they committed nine errors.
Second Set: The Golden Gophers bettered their hitting percentage in the second set when they hit .516 in the second and had 18 kills. Indiana had just seven kills in the set and committed two errors for a .179 hitting clip.
Third Set: Adanna Rollins had five kills in the set, while Taylor Morgan had six blocks en route to a 25-11 win. As a team, the Gophers have seven blocks in the set and hit .333 to solidify the win.
