Gophers Earn Sweep Over No. 15 Purdue

The No. 7 University of Minnesota volleyball program earned a 3-0 win over No. 15 Purdue, tonight at Maturi Pavilion. The Golden Gophers won, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23, and improve to 8-2 on the season and start Big Ten play, 2-0. Purdue drops to 8-3 on the season and 0-2 in league action.
Stephanie Samedy had 21 kills in 52 attempts, had 11 digs for the double-double and added three aces. CC McGraw tied a career-best 24 digs. Alexis Hart added nine kills in 22 attempts to hit for .318. Regan Pittman had 10 kills in 23 attempts and added three digs. Making her first collegiate start, Bayley McMenimen had 45 assists and added the double-double with 12 digs.
As a team, Minnesota has 51 kills to Purdue's 36, and a 74-62 advantage in digs. The Boilermakers held a 7-4 block lead.

First Set: Samedy added 10 kills in the first set and hit .381 as the Gophers took the first set, 25-19. As a team, the Gophers hit, .262 to Purdue's .122.
Second Set: Minnesota held the lead from the get-go and took the 25-21 set win. The Gophers took a 14-8 lead as Purdue used both its timeouts. As Minnesota built a 20-10 lead, Purdue battled back and cut the lead to 23-19, but the Gophers had a kill from Pittman at 24-19 and again at 25-21 for the set win.
Third Set: After 12 tie scores and seven lead changes, Minnesota took the lead for good at 24-23 off a Samedy ace and won the match off a Pittman kill.
