Baldwin Signs with Minnesota Whitecaps

Sydney Baldwin is the sixth Gophers alumna to sign with the NWHL's Whitecaps for 2019-20.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota alumna Sydney Baldwin is the sixth Gopher alum to sign with the Minnesota Whitecaps for the 2019-20 season. After spending the 2018-19 season playing professional hockey in Vienna, Austria with the EHV Vienna Sabres, the Minnetonka, Minn., native is set for her first season in the NWHL.
"I am incredibly passionate about the game of hockey and am excited to continue my journey on the ice and be a part of the Whitecaps," said Baldwin in a statement from the NWHL. "My goal is to start the year strong and give the fans entertaining games and help the team defend the Isobel Cup. I'm very grateful for this and looking forward to the start of the NWHL season."
Baldwin played for the Gophers for four years from 2014-15 to 2017-18, winning back-to-back national titles as a freshman and sophomore before serving as a team captain and being honored as both a CCM/AHCA First Team All-American and Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award top-10 finalist as a senior. Baldwin recorded 81 career points (24 goals, 57 assists) in 158 games played for the Maroon & Gold. She is still tied for 10th in career scoring among all-time Gopher defense.Â
In addition to signing with the Whitecaps, Baldwin has been named an assistant coach for the St. Catherine University women's hockey team. She will serve on Wildcats' coaching staff while pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing at the St. Catherine University Graduate College - Henrietta Schmoll School of Health.
