Wiskus Set for World Selection Camp

Shane Wiskus is capping off the first week of classes a little bit differently. The Gophers junior captain will head to the USA Gymnastics 2019 World Team Selection Camp at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center Sept. 5-9 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Wiskus looks to contend for a spot on the team that USA Gymnastics will send to the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany Oct. 4-13. The United States will assemble a five-man contingent with one alternate also heading to the event. The world meet is the last chance for countries to claim one of the nine remaining team bids for Tokyo 2020.
Shane proved his potential most recently at the US National Championships. He took fourth place in the all-around competition, while also claiming the national title on vault and third place on parallel bars. As a top six finisher, he was named to the Senior National Team and earned his invitation to this week's camp. Of the eight men invited to selection camp, Wiskus is the youngest at 20 years old, and is the only active college gymnast.
Selection camp will see two days of competition on Thursday and Saturday. Day one action will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, while Saturday's events will run from 3:30-5:30. USA Gymnastics will be live streaming both days on its YouTube channel.
