MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota alumna Kelsey Cline is the seventh Gopher women's hockey alum to sign with the Minnesota Whitecaps for the 2019-20 season. Cline is making her NWHL debut.
"This season I plan to bring depth to the strong defensive corps the Whitecaps have built," Cline said in an NWHL statement. "I hope to connect with all of the fans that support the Whitecaps so strongly and bring them home another championship."
Cline played in 161 games for the University of Minnesota from 2013-14 to 2016-17, finishing her career with 24 points (five goals, 24 assists). A versatile player, Cline saw action at both defense and forward during her collegiate career. The Bloomington, Minn., native was honored as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, WCHA Scholar Athlete, WCHA All-Academic, and Academic All-Big Ten honoree during her four-year career for the Maroon & Gold and graduated with a degree in marketing with a minor in human resources from the Carlson School of Management.
"Kelsey is an important addition to our blue line," said Minnesota GM and co-head coach Jack Brodt. "She is an excellent skater and with her speed and agility, she will be able to get the puck out of our defensive end."
Along with playing for the Whitecaps, Cline serves as an assistant coach for the Bloomington Jefferson High School girls varsity hockey team.
