Minnesota finishes season with highest ranking since 1962

The University of Minnesota football team ended the season ranked No. 10 in the final AP Poll, which was released early this morning. The No. 10 ranking is the highest for the Gophers to end the season since it was also ranked No. 10 at the conclusion of the 1962 season.

This year's final ranking marks the first time that Minnesota is included in the final poll since it was No. 20 in 2003 and is just the third time since 1962 that the Gophers are ranked in the final AP Poll (Minnesota was No. 19 in 1999).

The Gophers, which went 11-2 this season, made 10 appearances in the AP Poll this year, which is tied for the most in school history (Minnesota also made 10 appearances in 2003 and 1960).

Minnesota won 11 games in a season for the first time since 1904 and won seven Big Ten games for the first time ever. The Gophers beat two AP Top 10 opponents (No. 5 Penn State and No. 9 Auburn) for the first time since 1956 and their No. 7 ranking on Nov. 10, was the highest for the school since it was ranked No. 5 on Nov. 19, 1962.

The Gophers, who are 15-4 in their last 19 games, open the 2020 season on Sept. 3 against Florida Atlantic. Tickets for the 2020 season are on sale now.
