Baseball America Latest to Honor Meyer as Preseason First Team All-American

MINNEAPOLIS – Junior right-handed pitcher Max Meyer received his fourth Preseason All-America honor of the offseason on Monday, as Baseball America named the Woodbury, Minn. native to their First Team All-American squad.
Meyer's status as a BA Preseason All-American comes at the utility position. Entering the 2020 campaign, the junior is projected to serve as Minnesota's ace on the mound, while also handling designated hitter duties with the bat.
BA's Preseason All-American teams are unique in the fact that they are determined by a poll of MLB organizations' scouting departments. This year, BA collected votes from a dozen different MLB clubs.
In addition to the accolade from Baseball America, Meyer has garnered Preseason All-American status from three other publications: D1Baseball (First Team), Perfect Game (Second Team) and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper (Third Team).
Meyer is coming off a solid sophomore campaign in which he successfully transitioned to the Gophers' starting rotation after serving as a reliever throughout his freshman tour. In 2019, the righty finished with a 5-3 record and 2.11 ERA across 76 2/3 innings, striking out a team-high 87 batters in the process.
Pitching out of the pen in 2018, Meyer tossed 43 2/3 frames of 2.06 ERA ball, going 2-3 on the hill and tying the program record of 16 saves.
As a result of his successful first two seasons in Gold Country, multiple outlets have tabbed Meyer as a top prospect in advance of the 2020 MLB Draft. MLB Pipeline currently has Meyer listed as their No. 24 draft prospect, while MLB.com ranks him No. 25 overall.
Last week, D1Baseball also tabbed Meyer as the top 2020 draft prospect in all of the Big Ten Conference.
Minnesota will officially embark on their 2020 season when they open the Angels College Classic on Feb. 14 against Oregon in Tempe, Ariz.
