The Gophers garnered their first Big Ten weekly honors after a stellar weekend at the Rutgers quad meet. Junior Lexy Ramler earned Big Ten Gymnast of the week, while sophomore Tiarre Sales takes home her first ever Event Specialist of the Week.
The honors come after Sales and Ramler helped the Gophers to a record-breaking team beam score of 49.700. Along with the rest of the team's beam lineup, Sales and Ramler guided the Gophers to the top spot in the nation on the event.
Ramler is fifth overall in the nation and ranked first on beam. She is only one of three student-athletes to own a perfect 10 on the event in the 2020 season. Ramler is also 16th on the uneven bars. This is Ramler's 11th Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award.
Ramler had five podium finishes this past weekend. She took first on beam (10.000) and in the all-around (39.550). On the beam, Ramler earned her first career perfect 10, and became the third Gopher in program history to reach perfection on the event. She went second on bars (9.850) and floor (9.875), while finishing third on vault (9.825).
Ramler was the 2019 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and finished as the runner-up on the uneven bars and in the all-around at the 2019 NCAA National Championships. Prior to her NCAA Championship appearance, she earned the Big Ten title in the all-around and on the balance beam.
Sales is tied for third in the nation on beam with her career-high 9.975 scored this past weekend. Sales finished second on beam and fifth on bars at the Rutgers quad meet.
The Gophers return home on Saturday, Jan. 25 for their home opener against Illinois. This will be the "Always Dreaming" meet in support of the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital.
Fans will be able to bring in baby rattlers, decks of cards, card games and Legos to the ticket office on the day of the meet to receive discounted admission. All donations received will be delivered to the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital.
All donations must be new, unused and unopened.
Fans who make donations at the ticket office will also receive a raffle ticket and be entered in to win a one of a kind Gopher gymnastics warmup leotard. The winner will be announced in the middle of the meet.
