LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team fell to the No. 4 UCLA Bruins by a score of 4-0 on the first day of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Los Angeles. The tournament is being held at Los Angeles Tennis Center and is hosting Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount along with Minnesota.

DOUBLES
The Gophers would lose the point in doubles play after the duos of Cammy Frei / Tina Kreinis and Ekin Ercetin / Dalila Said lost to strong pairings by the Bruins. River Hart / Tiffany Huber ended their match unfinished.

SINGLES
Despite a strong battle from Minnesota, it was not enough to overcome a nationally seeded UCLA team. Finishing first was Tiffany Huber, who lost 6-2,6-0 in straight sets to No. 6 Abbey Forbes. The second finish of the day came from Ekin Ercetin. Ercetin lost 6-2,6-2 to No. 99 Annette Goulak. Juliet Zhang would lose the final battle to Taylor Johnson 6-2, 6-3.

The Gophers saw strong performances from Tina Kreinis, Dalila Said, and Cammy Frei who all left their matches unfinished. Both Frei and Kreinis ended their matches 6-2, 5-5. Said won her first set 7-5 and ended the second set 2-3.

NOTABLE
Before going unfinished, Tina Kreinis and Dalila Said held off their opponents. Kreinis held off No. 14 Elysia Bolton 5-5 in her second set of the day while Said defeated Abi Altick in the first set 7-5.

QUOTEABLE
"UCLA is one of the best teams in the country and they played well today," head coach Catrina Thompson said. "I am proud of the way the girls competed as the matches progressed especially Tina, Dalila and Cammy. Tina was in a tight second set at number one singles, Dalila had won her first set and was battling in the second set and Cammy was also in a tight second set. We need to make some adjustments and now turn our attention to Gonzaga for tomorrow's match."

UP NEXT
The Gophers will take on Gonzaga tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. CST.
