Receiver has caught 56 career passes and has five touchdowns in 26 games
University of Minnesota football coach P.J. Fleck named receiver Chris Autman-Bell the team's Nekton of the Week. Autman-Bell is the team's first Nekton of the Week, as the Gophers are now into their off-season workouts.
Autman-Bell, who will be a junior in the fall, has played in 26 career games and has made 56 catches for 820 yards and five touchdowns. He has made at least one catch in 20 straight games.
Last season, he made 28 catches (caught at least one pass in every game) for 371 yards and five touchdowns. His first career touchdown came at Fresno State in the second season game of the season and was a 20-yard pass from Tanner Morgan on fourth-and-13. That catch, which was in the back corner of the end zone, came with 46 seconds left in the game and forced overtime.
Autman-Bell had a touchdown in three straight games to open Big Ten play against Purdue, Illinois and Nebraska. His final touchdown of the year was in Minnesota's home win against No. 5 Penn State and was a 21-yard reception that put Minnesota up 14-7. The Gophers never trailed after his score and beat the Nittany Lions 31-26.
In 2018, he made 28 catches (fourth all-time for a Minnesota freshman) for 449 yards (third all-time for a Minnesota freshman) and led the team with a 16.03 yards per catch average.
Minnesota opens the 2020 season on Sept. 3 at home against Florida Atlantic. Season tickets are on sale now.
