MINNEAPOLIS -- Several Gopher women's hockey alums are among the professional women's hockey players spending the 2019-20 season participating in the Professional Women's Hockey Players' Association (PWHPA).
Most recent action for the PWHPA saw four University of Minnesota women's hockey alumnae take part in the all-star celebrations for the National Hockey League and Eastern Conference Hockey League.
During the NHL All-Star weekend in St. Louis, Mo., Amanda Kessel and Lee Stecklein participated in the Elite 3-on-3 match between American and Canadian PWHPA members. Each team's roster was hand-picked by NHL leadership to help showcase women's hockey talent on a national stage. Canada prevailed over the U.S. by a score of 2-1.
In additon, the ECHL held its All-Star Game in Wichita, Ka., adding a member of the PWHPA to each of the participating teams for the 3-on-3 tournament. Maroon & Gold alums Dani Cameranesi and Gigi Marvin laced up for Team Hammers and the Western Conference team, respectively. Both former Gophers tallied points for their squads.
Eight Gopher women's hockey alums have suited up for PWHPA events this season, including Megan Bozek, Hannah Brandt, Kelly Pannek, and Noora Raty along with Kessel, Stecklein, Cameranesi, Marvin.
