1/4/2020 2:14:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
MINNEAPOLIS – One day after claiming the top spot in the women's 1-meter springboard, sophomore Joy Zhu rose to the occasion yet again on Saturday with a first place finish in the 3-meter finals (365.85). Jake Butler also produced a standout day on the men's side, with the freshman claiming second place in the men's 1-meter (314.80).
With Saturday's victory, Zhu has now swept the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events on three separate occasions this season. The sophomore also accomplished the feat during Minnesota's Nov. 8 dual against Wisconsin and at last month's Minnesota Invitational.
For Butler, this weekend's performance is nothing short of remarkable. After placing fourth out of 30 total entrants in the 3-meter (355.90) on Friday, Butler upped his game with the second place finish in the well on Saturday, making it two top-five results on the weekend for the young freshman.
In total, Minnesota has already registered five separate top-five finishes through the Tennessee Diving Invite's first two days. On top of Butler and Zhu's pair of top-five finishes, freshman Jaclynn Fowler placed fourth in Friday's 1-meter springboard (272.20) competition.
