Minnesota running back totaled 282 all-purpose yards at Illinois
Running back Mohamed Ibrahim was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after rushing 30 times for 224 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-14 win at Illinois last Saturday.Â
Ibrahim, who rushed for 207 yards last week at Maryland, became the first Big Ten back to rush for 200 yards and four touchdowns in consecutive games since Larry Johnson did so for Penn State in 2002.Â
Ibrahim tied his career high with 224 rushing yards at Illinois, which is a mark he previously set versus Georgia Tech in the 2018 Quick Lane Bowl.Â
The Baltimore, Md., native also set a career high with 282 all-purpose yards (224 rush, 31 receiving, 27 kick return) against the Illini. His 282 all-purpose yards ranks as the seventh most productive game in school history and are the most for a Gopher since Troy Stoudermire had 290 versus Iowa in 2008. They are the most all-purpose yards by a running back since Laurence Maroney had 333 versus Purdue in 2005. Â
Ibrahim also tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns at Illinois, which he previously tied the week prior at Maryland. He set a school record with eight touchdowns in consecutive games and is now the only player in school history with two four-touchdown games.Â
He is now tied for first in school history with Laurence Maroney, Chris Darkins, Darrell Thompson and Garry White as the only individuals to record three 200-yard career rushing games and he became only the second Gopher ever to record two consecutive 200-yard rushing games (Terry Jackson II did so in 2002 against Northwestern and Michigan State).
This is the first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor for Ibrahim and the first for a Gopher since Tanner Morgan was honored Nov. 11, 2019. Ibrahim was previously named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 14, 2018.
