Big Ten Distinguished Scholar made a career high 18 tackles in win at Nebraska

University of Minnesota linebacker Mariano Sori-Marin was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week today after totaling a career high 18 tackles in a 24-17 win at Nebraska.

Sori-Marin's 18 tackles are the most by a Gopher since Blake Cashman made 20 tackles against Northwestern in 2018. The Mokena, Ill., native also forced one fumble in the Minnesota win.

Sori-Marin, who leads Minnesota this season with 47 tackles, is the first Gopher to be honored by the Big Ten since Mohamed Ibrahim was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 9, 2020.

Sori-Marin is the first Gopher to be named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week since Antoine Winfield Jr., was recognized on Nov. 11, 2019.
