Hengler, Bench Earn WCHA Weekly Honors

Crystalyn Hengler and Lauren Bench received WCHA Player of the Week awards after Minnesota's sweep over Minnesota State.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Junior Crystalyn HenglerĀ was named WCHA Defense of the Week and redshirt senior Lauren Bench was named WCHA Goaltender of the Week after Minnesota's home-and-home sweep over Minnesota State last week.
HenglerĀ earned her first WCHA weekly award of her career. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native led WCHA defense with three points, three assists, 1.50 assists per game, 1.50 points per game, one power-play assist, and one power-play point against Minnesota State. Her +3 rating was tied for second among WCHA defense. Hengler tied her career high with two assists in Minnesota's game one 5-1 win, setting up the Gophers' first and fourth goals. In game two, Hengler assisted Grace Zumwinkle's game-winning power-play goal. Her three assists for the series were a career high, and she led NCAA defense with three points over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Bench received her third WCHA weekly award of the season and ninth of her career. Bench earned a road win over Minnesota State last Thursday in her lone appearance of the weekend as the Gophers won 5-1 over the Mavericks in game one. The Eagan, Minn., native made 40 saves on 41 shots for a WCHA-best .976 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average on the weekend. Nationally, Bench's .976 save percentage ranked third in the country.
