Lauren Bench and Grace Zumwinkle have been honored as WCHA Players of the Month for November 2020.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior goaltender Lauren Bench and senior forward Grace Zumwinkle have been honored as WCHA Players of the Month for November 2020, the WCHA announced Thursday morning.
Bench led the Gophers to a 3-1-0 record during the month of November. She earned back-to-back WCHA Goaltender of the Week awards after backstopping the Gophers to a season-opening series split against Ohio State, including a 36-save shutout in her Gopher debut, and combining for 57 saves on 60 shots in a road sweep over Minnesota Duluth. Bench led WCHA goaltenders with a .962 save percentage, 1.26 goals against average, 126 saves, 131 shots faced, three wins, and a .750 winning percentage in November. She was one of four league netminders to pick up one shutout during the opening month of the season as well. The award marks Bench's second WCHA monthy award of her career.
Meanwhile, Zumwinkle earned the fourth WCHA monthly award of her career after leading the Gophers in scoring with four points (3g-1a) through the team's first four games of the season. Her 24 shots on goal were tops in the league, and her three goals included one game-winner, tied for the WCHA's best. Following the team's season-opening split with Ohio State, Zumwinkle received the eighth WCHA weekly award of her career after scoring three of Minnesota's five goals against the Buckeyes. Zumwinkle then recorded nine shots on goal in Minnesota's road sweep over Minnesota Duluth.
The No. 3 Gophers return home to host top-ranked Wisconsin this week. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. CT Friday and 4:07 p.m. CT Saturday at Ridder Arena.
