Minnesota Recognized in Collegiate Baseball's Preseason Fabulous 50

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota baseball program was ranked in Collegiate Baseball's annual Fabulous 50 preseason poll on Monday morning, coming in at No. 46 on the list. The Gophers received 377 votes in the poll.

In being placed at No. 46 in the nation, Minnesota is the third-highest ranked program in the Big Ten Conference heading into the 2021 campaign. The Gophers trail only Michigan (No. 18) and Indiana (No. 39) in CB's preseason rankings. No additional Big Ten programs were ranked inside the top-50.

Last season, Minnesota sat at No. 29 in CB's preseason poll, trailing only Michigan (No. 10) in the rankings. The Maroon & Gold lost just three players from that 2020 team: redshirt senior infielder Jordan Kozicky (graduation), junior right-handed pitcher Max Meyer (MLB Draft) and junior right-handed pitcher Sam Thoresen (undrafted free agent signing).

After finishing at 8-10 in the COVID-19-abbreviated 2020 season, Minnesota returns 32 players from last year's roster, including positional starters at every position but shortstop. Six newcomers will look to add an immediate boost to the squad as the Gophers bring five freshmen and one transfer into the fold for 2021.

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll in the nation, dating back to the 1959 season. Honors from CB are scheduled to continue on Tuesday, Dec. 22, when preseason All-American honors are announced.
