Gophers Add Northern Iowa Transfer Michael Blockhus

University of Minnesota head wrestling coach Brandon Eggum announced the addition of Michael Blockhus beginning with the 2020-21 season. The Cresco, Iowa, native will join the Maroon and Gold after spending two seasons at the University of Northern Iowa. He is projected to compete at 149 pounds as a redshirt sophomore.

Blockhus compiled a 40-14 record in his two seasons as a Panther, including a 22-10 mark as a redshirt freshman in 2019-20. He earned honorable mention NWCA All-America honors after qualifying for the NCAA Championship as a No. 13 seed. Blockhus finished 9-3 in dual meets at 141 pounds and placed fifth at the Big 12 Championship.

A graduate of New Hampton High School, Blockhus was a three-time Iowa state champion and four-time finalist with a 166-8 career record. Blockhus was also a Junior men's freestyle All-American.
