Head Coach Catrina Thompson has announced the hiring of Meghan Kelley as assistant women's tennis coach.
University of Minnesota head women's tennis coach Catrina Thompson announced Thursday the hiring of Meghan Kelley to her staff as assistant coach. Kelley, a former top-20 player in the nation at the University of Virginia, was most recently serving as a graduate assistant coach at Ball State University. She will begin her Minnesota coaching career on January 4th.
"In the midst of all the difficulties presented by the coronavirus there's a silver lining as we have been fortunate to hire our new assistant women's tennis coach Meghan Kelley," Thompson said. "Meghan comes to us with a wealth of knowledge, a successful playing career and an enthusiasm for our tennis program. We are excited to have her as part of our program and get our spring season started soon!"
Kelley, a native of Falmouth, Maine competed for the Cavaliers from 2015-2019. She was a four-year letter winner while compiling an overall singles record of 98-47 and an overall doubles record of 104-53 throughout her career. As a senior, Kelley was named ITA Atlantic Regional Senior Player of the Year and was an All-ACC First Team selection.
"I am extremely excited and humbled to join the Gopher family," Kelley said. "I feel very fortunate to become a part of the University of Minnesota's culture of success and tradition. The University of Minnesota's values, community and resources will allow me to best help my student-athletes reach their goals on and off the court. I am eager to learn alongside coach Thompson and assist her in continuing to build a 'team first' culture and strong team identity. I want to thank Coach Thompson and the Minnesota administration for giving me this incredible opportunity, as well as my many mentors for helping me grow tremendously throughout my tennis career. I would also like to thank everyone from the Ball State community who have supported me and pushed me to be better in so many ways. I cannot wait to get started and to get out on the courts with the team!"
