All-Around with Kate Grotenhuis

Kate Grotenhuis grew up idolizing the Gopher Women's gymnastics team. Now, all these years later, she has turned her dreams into a reality and is in her first year on the team.
Gopher Sports: How has your freshman year been going so far?
Kate Grotenhuis: It has been pretty good. I have been learning how to manage my time and adjust to college life.
GS: What does it mean to you to be on this team as a hometown kid?
KG: It's nice to be close to family and friends. I've grown up watching Minnesota gymnastics, so to be a part of the team is very special.
GS: Why did you decide to come to Minnesota?
KG: I have been watching Minnesota gymnastics since I was little and have always known I wanted to be a part of it. When I got the opportunity to be on the team, I had to take it.
GS: What does love the battle mean to you?
KG: Love the Battle means to push through the hard days so that you can be stronger and enjoy the good ones.
GS: What has been your favorite class and why?
KG: My favorite class is intro to Kinesiology. This class has been really fun because I get to learn about exercise and how the body moves. It's something that I'm passionate about.
GS: What is your greatest gymnastics memory?
KG: Nationals was a really fun experience. I also really liked the event finals at Northern Lights. It was cool how they announced your name before you competed.
GS: How has the team helped you adjust to being a student-athlete?
KG: The team has helped me a lot with adjusting to college in general, but especially with knowing where to go on campus. Everyone was always willing to help me. They also gave great advice.
GS: What are you passionate about outside of gymnastics?
KG: Outside of gymnastics I really like to hang out with friends and family, go to the beach, and bake!
