Sarah Bacon began her 2020 diving season on Friday evening, taking silver in the women's 3-meter springboard (297.60) at the FINA Grand Prix in Madrid.

Bacon finished behind synchronized diving teammate Kassidy Cook, who claimed first place with a score of 308.10. It was a strong start to the year for the Gopher diver, with Bacon's top dive of the day receiving a 65.1 score.

Although the FINA Grand Prix runs through Sunday, the event likely serves as an essential precursor for Bacon, who is set to compete in the 2020 FINA World Cup in Tokyo this April. Having qualified for the World Cup in the women's synchronized 3-meter alongside Cook, Tokyo represents the pair's final opportunity to qualify for a spot in the 2020 Olympic Games.

In the last 12 months alone, Bacon has been crowned a USA Diving Winter Nationals Champion (synchronized 3-meter), an NCAA National Champion (1-meter), a Pan American Games gold medalist (1-meter), a FINA World Championships silver medalist (1-meter) and a Pan Am Games silver medalist (synchronized 3-meter).

The FINA Grand Prix will continue through Sunday with the women's 10 meter, men's 3-meter and synchronized events yet to take place.
