MINNEAPOLIS – The Big Ten Conference has named University of Minnesota thrower Kieran McKeag as its Big Ten Men's Field Athlete of the Week after a career-best performance from the redshirt junior at the inaugural Minnesota Cold Classic.

A native of Lakeville, Minn., McKeag won the men's weight throw at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse on Saturday behind his personal record of 22.93 meters (75-02.75 ft.) – a mark that ranks first in the Big Ten and third among all NCAA throwers this season. Additionally, McKeag improved his standings in the Gopher history books. Already sitting in second place all-time for the Maroon & Gold after clearing 21.97 meters (72-01.00 ft.) last year, McKeag bested his personal record by more than three feet as he narrows in on Jon Lehman's 2014 school record of 22.98 meters (75-04.75 ft.).

McKeag's performance highlighted a banner event for the Gophers as the Maroon & Gold won 16 event titles at the program's final home meet of the indoor season. In addition to McKeag's victory, Kaleb Siekmeier earned runner-up honors with his throw of 22.09 meters (72-05.75 ft.) – a mark that currently stands third all-time at Minnesota, third in the Big Ten this year and ninth in the nation this season.

This is the first career Big Ten weekly honor for McKeag while the Gophers have now earned three conference accolades this season on the men's side. Shane Streich was named the Big Ten Men's Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11 while Jonathan Tharaldsen picked up Big Ten Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors on Jan. 29.

Up Next: Big Ten Championships
McKeag and the Gophers will be in action this weekend (Feb. 28-29) at the 2020 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
