Five Gophers Qualify for NCAA Meet on Day Two of Diving Zones

3/10/2020 6:40:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving

Five members of the Minnesota swimming & diving program punched their tickets to the 2020 NCAA Championships on day two of the NCAA Zone D Championships in either the 1-meter or 3-meter springboard.

After qualifying for the NCAA meet in the 1-meter on day one, Joy Zhu (671.75) and Jaclynn Fowler (592.95) doubled down on the achievement and earned bids in the 3-meter on day two. All three Minnesota divers that qualified for finals ultimately secured spots in the 3-meter at the NCAA Championships, as Jae Sarkis (579.25) is also NCAA-bound after an 11th place finish in the event.

On the men's side, both Jake Butler (674.00) and Duncan Lester (606.40) broke through and effectively punched their tickets to NCAAs with their respective finishes of fifth and eighth place. Although Jeremy Moser (596.25) just missed the cut with his 11th place result, the senior can still qualify for the NCAA Championships if he placed within the top-eight on the platform on day three.

Although Minnesota has already experienced an eventful showing at NCAA Diving Zones, there remains room for even more competitors to join the fray via tomorrow's platform diving competition. Day three will begin at 11 a.m. CDT.
