Seven Gopher alums are spending the 2019-20 season playing for the Minnesota Whitecaps in the NWHL.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Seven University of Minnesota women's hockey alumnae are playing for the NWHL's Minnesota Whitecaps this season in Chelsey Brodt Rosenthal, Winny Brodt Brown, Sydney Baldwin, Kelsey Cline, Meghan Lorence, Nicole Schammel, and Amanda Leveille.
For the regular season, Schammel (11g-14a) ranked fourth on the team with 25 points in 22 games while Lorence (10g-11a) was fifth with 21 points in 24 games. Baldwin (8g-10a) had 18 points in 17 games as the team's second-leading scoring blue liner, and Brodt Brown (5a), Cline (1g-3a), and Brodt Rosenthal (3a) also logged points. Leveille went 16-5-0-2 (W-L-T-OTL) in 24 games played with a .935 save percentage, 2.08 goals against average, and three shutouts.
Leveille was named one of the NWHL Fans' Three Stars of the 2019-20 season; she set NWHL single-season records by making 677 saves and making 23 starts (1353:56 minutes) and finished second in the league in save percentage (.935), goals against average (2.08) and wins (16). The NWHL All-Star selection became the NWHL's all-time leader in wins (43) and is now tied as the all-time leader in shutouts (5). She was named the NWHL Player of the Month for January 2020 as well.
The Whitecaps finished second to the Boston Pride in the NWHL regular-season standings, posting a record of 17-5-2 (W-L-OTL). The team enters the Isobel Cup playoffs on a four-game winning streak, sweeping the Beauts and Whale in their most recent series.
Whitecaps vs. Beauts (Feb. 22-23)
The Whitecaps swept the Buffalo Beauts with 6-1 and 9-3 wins. Lorence (1g-1a) recorded two points in the 6-1 victory while Leveille made 20 saves on 21 shots faced in 50:31 of action. Game two saw Cline (1g) and Lorence (1a) get on the score sheet as well.
Whitecaps vs. Whale (Feb. 29-March 1)
The Whitecaps closed out the regular season with a sweep over the Connecticut Whale, winning 6-3 and 3-1. Against the Whale, Lorence (1g-2a), Schammel (1g), and Brodt Rosenthal (1a), recorded points while Leveille earned the win in game one with 34 saves on 37 shots faced.

The Whitecaps open the postseason against the Metropolitan Riveters in the NWHL Isobel Cup semifinal round at TRIA Rink this Sunday. The NWHL postseason begins with Buffalo and Connecticut facing off in a single quarterfinal game on Friday with a semifinal meeting with regular-season champion Boston on the line. The semifinal winners meet in the Isobel Cup championship game.
